Score One for the Caledon Garden Tour

Well, we had a first today during the tour.  I've lost people on simlines, buried folks while trying to fly over full parcels, drowned tourists while trying to cruise the Firth but today's the first time ever for a tour group to crash a sim.  It was nearly Biblical!  (literally)  The last thing I saw before being logged out by SL was one of our tourists, MatthewMarkLuke John walking out over the waters of the Firth.  It's one of those perfect SL moments that I will commit to memory.

Once we had everyone back on virtual solid ground, the remainder of the tour went according to plan (or as according to plan as a tour can go).

Our stops today included--
  • Caledon Victorian Garden sim
  • La Petite Jardin des Fauves in Steam SkyCity
  • Brideswell Estate Gardens
  • Blind Faith Manor Gardens, both of Rothesay (this is where we crashed the sim)
  • Carl Metropolitan's Mayfair Maze
  • Galicia Park in Morgaine
  • LillieJay Mills' Riverside Mill in Stormhold
  • Garden of Fables in Caledon Prime
The tour notecard will be available in the new Aether Education and Tourism Bureau once we get that up and running.

Is spring mating season for parcel invaders???

Pardon the question, but I have to ask...

...does spring make parcel jumpers go into heat? Or does it just seem that way?

Twice now in as many days, I've found evidence in my parcels or my friends' of invaders with only one thing on their minds (and it isn't rocket science!).

Yesterday, at Inkwell Manor, Wrath and I stumbled upon a 45ms Zhong, who while she was dressed as a circus ringmaster from the waist up, she was missing quite a bit down below...namely pants and undies. When Wrath asked her to put something on, that we were not an X-rated sim, she proceeded to begin to hump the floor. Now, I absolutely adore Inkwell...Grey Kurka (see his xstreet shop here) is a new favorite designer of mine...but I've never felt the urge to molest the woodgrain. So she quickly was booted, from Inkwell and my other Wellsian holdings. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Then today, I get a phone call from my friend Bama Xue who, though she is away from a computer, recieved an IM message to her cell (via email) that she had a squatter on her property in Morgaine. As Bama is my friend and I used to own that little island, I still feel a kinship to the place and I went to investigate. Sure enough, at somewhere around 3000 meters, a Carla Platthy had put up a modern love nest. Carla (I'll use her first name, since she apparently isn't a lady or a miss, acting this way) has been around since 2007 and knew enough to place the root prims over Bama's property so it wouldn't be autoreturned by the commonwealth land system. She's apparently done this before and will do it again so she can look forward to being banned pre-emptively on several parcels around Caledon as well. Since Bama can't get back online for a bit, I went ahead and filed an AR and made the lovenest pretty much useless until Bama can return the items or an EM can clean up the mess.

Both incidences make James Wagner Au's blog post on breaking and fornicating rather timely. The only thing a landowner in SL can do is stay vigilant, I guess...be ready to drop the banhammer...and break out the virtual Lysol and bleach. Ewww, cooties!

Happy New Year, Caledon!

The New Year was greeted properly in Caledon with not only one bash, but two...and both in the same sim, Oxbridge Village. Both events were well attended, the sim population shooting to 83 at the hight of both parties.

I chose to attend the one hosted at "Kintyre Lite." Sir Ras started the DJ duties, spinning music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Then, Miss Mags (otherwise known as "the sexist voice in Second Life") took over with a mix of mashups and electronica for the duration of the night (through the Alaskan New Year's drop). A fun and rather wacky time was had by all.

Release of the Sumie Memorial Plane

Last night, quite the little crowd gathered on Platform Three of the Airship Yard at Caledon Middlesea. We were there to celebrate the release of the newest Caledon aircraft to hit the skies of Second Life, the Sumie Memorial Plane. Test flights abounded--some pretty, some not so pretty--as those who gathered "got a feel for" the controls.

Proud airplane pappa, Wrath Constantine, Duke of Middlesea, is distributing the aircraft inworld, free of charge in the memory of Sumie Kawashima. The box also includes links to Sumie's memorials as well as a bell that she designed, called "Hope."

Personally, I'm really jazzed about this aircraft. Not only is it a really nice design and I know how excited it's creator is to have the project completed, but it's the first SL aircraft with actual controls that I've been able to thusfar keep out of the water. I won't say that my piloting is a lovely thing to behold, but for once, this little kitty didn't get drenched! ;)

Good night, Sweet Goddess...

This week, we lost yet another catgirl from this planet...Eartha Kitt passed away on Christmas. I don't think anyone who saw her performance as Catwoman in the Batman TV series could soon forget her. But she was so much more than that. She was as strong a woman as ever was and did it with a style that few can ever hope to match. For those who want to read more about Miss Kitt, you can find all kinds of info at her official website.

Miss Magdelena Kamenev was as crushed about the news as I was, probably more so...below is her tribute to Miss Kitt at her home in Caledon Downs.

Goodnight, Sweet Goddess, you will be missed...

First official post...at home in Caledon

As typical for me, my little av is sitting up in my treehouse in Caledon Morgaine while I'm working in another window. Periodically, I'll peer in, read back on the CalChat and comment (desperately hoping not to royally embarrass myself as I am quite well versed in doing).

Tomorrow afternoon is my first lead for a book discussion group in Second Life. We're doing Dion Fortune's Mystical Qabalah over at the Covenstead Conservatory. I still need to finish the notes for it, etc., etc. I'm a bit nervous, but halfway figure that no one will show. If I were doing something on the Sanguinarium Code, I'd draw all the little vamp RPers, but there are no Qabalistic RPers (or not that I know of, anyway).

-----------------------

I must somehow keep myself from shopping tonight. Last night's pillaging of Grendel's Children set off a shopping frenzy. I couldn't find a Minotaur avatar there that I liked, so I found myself at Sense, getting the Dark Unicorna Angel and the Neko Angel avs (which I had said before that I wouldn't do because they were too expensive, but I *wanted* them!). Sure, they're not avs I can wear around Caledon, but I'm not always in Caledon. ;)
BTW, upon returning to Sense, I wandered outside the main building and found that they have lots of other offerings at various price points, including a freebie area.

If that weren't enough, after a bit of egging on (truly, it didn't take too much), his Duke-ship Constantine dragged me (okay, maybe dragged is too strong a term) to Material Squirrel where I picked up the Israfiel Angel and Jinx wings.

I still haven't gotten through all the loot!
